Eden, Texas Native Travis Baldree, is a Jack of all Trades. He is an innovative video game designer, award-winning fantasy novel author, captivating audiobook narrator, and an accomplished entrepreneur who is the co-owner and CEO of Double Damage Games.

As a narrator, he is considered one of the most in-demand narrators of the modern era, thanks to his enthralling voice and impeccable story-telling skills. He is credited with narrating a number of best-selling books, such as Will Wight’s Cradle series.

As a video game designer, Travis has made a number of popular games but is best known for creating the fantasy-themed action role-playing game Torchlight.

He remains active in the gaming industry as the CEO of Double Damage Game. As an author, he has published five books, but he is best known for his 2022 debut fantasy novel Legends & Lattes and its prequel, Bookshops, and Bonedust, which was released in 2023.

Early Life  and Education

Baldree was raised in Texas and California. Growing up, he was a voracious reader who had a profound love for reading both academic books and novels, especially fantasy novels.

As a book-worm, he found solace and inspiration in the various endless adventures that often unfolded between the covers of novels such as The Hobbit, Nicobobinus, Dune, The Thief of Always, and Cricket in Times Square, among others.

He attended Colfax High School in California, where he was an excellent straight student. He graduated from high school with excellent grades and went on to join Washington State University. Travis holds a bachelor’s degree from the institution.

Gaming Career

Travis started out his career working as a software engineer at the Wild Tangent in 1998. He spent 7 years at the company, where his skillset, hard work, and personality saw him climb up the ranks. By the time he left the company in October of 2005, he had been named Senior Engineer.

After parting ways with Wild Tangent, he immediately joined Flagship Studios as a game developer and project director. He spent nearly three very productive years at Flagship before parting ways with the company in July of 2008.

In August of that year, Baldree and three of his associates, Max Schaefer, Erich Schaefer, and Peter Hu, co-founded C, and he served as the company president. During his tenure at Runic, he designed and released the video game Torchlight and its sequel, Torchlight II.

However, in March 2014, Baldree and Erich Schaefer left Runi Games and co-founded Double Damage Games, which has been active to date.

Audio Book  and Writing Career

Travis sharpened his narration skills by reading books out loud to his wife and kids. However, as the years went by, his kids grew and he could no longer narrate to them, so inspired by Frank Muller and his love for audiobooks, he decided to buy audio equipment, and he auditioned to narrate via ACX, and he successfully got it.

While he initially found the experience fulfilling, he only did audiobooks as an enjoyable hobby while also concentrating on his gaming endeavors. However, after consistently creating audiobooks, his big breakthrough came sometime in 2016, when he did his first Will Wright book, Unsold, which was part of the Cradle series.

After doing the Cradle series, he transitioned into a full-time audiobook narrator.

As a writer, Travis got his big breakthrough in 2022 after publishing his debut fantasy novel Legends & Lattes. The book was an instant hit, and it went on to win him the Astounding Award for Best New Writer in 2023.

The book prequels Bookshops and Bonedust were released in November 2023. Travis also has a YouTube channel, where he shares some of his narrations with his fans.
