Early life and education
Growing up in Birmingham, Mhari didn’t dream of becoming a journalist but rather was always interested in theater. A talented actress herself, she attended Kings Heath Primary in Birmingham before joining the King Edward VI Camp Hill School for Girls in 2006.
During her 7-year tenure at the institution, Mhari was actively involved in theater, is credited with devising a piece of physical theater, and was heavily involved in numerous theater productions. In 2013, she enrolled at the University of Warwick to pursue her Bachelor of Arts (BA) in French with Theatre Studies.
She graduated with first-class honors in 2017. She immediately re-joined the University of Warwick after graduating to pursue her MA in Theatre and Performance Research and graduated after a year in 2018.
In 2020, after discovering her newfound passion for journalism, Mhari joined News Associates London to pursue a short NCTJ Diploma in Multimedia Journalism and Journalism and graduated that same year.
Career
Mhari joined the workforce immediately after graduating from high school in 2013. She got her first gig working as an administrator at Quantum Domiciliary Care Ltd. in Sutton Coldfield, UK. In April 2014, the hardworking Mhari got her second job working as a bar staffer at the Neon nightclub and Smack nightclub.
In May, she landed her third gig working as a steward at the Warwick Arts Centre and her fourth gig working as a promotion and marketing executive at Warwick Yoga. In June, she got her fifth gig, working as a Theatre Careers Representative at Warwick University Careers and Skills.
However, as she progressed through her academic year, balancing all these jobs with her academic endeavors became really hard, and she quit two of her steward and bar staff jobs in August.
She, however, continued with her other gigs for a few more months and didn’t quit her Promotion and Marketing Executive and Theatre Careers Representative jobs until later in 2015 to concentrate on her newfound job as an assistant de langue at Lycee Carnot, Cannes.
Mhari worked there for a year before quitting in September 2017 to concentrate on her final year in school.
Media Career
While she was bound to have a career in theater, Mhari’s career choice was altered when a local TV station arrived to film a story about a gospel choir that she was actively singing in, and watching the crew go about their businesses, she instantly fell in love with journalism.
She immediately approached the crew producer and asked if they had any available work experience spots, and just like that, her career in journalism began. The following Monday, she found herself interviewing Yvonne Mosquito, the then Lord Mayor of Birmingham, and this marked the beginning of her media career.
She spent nearly one and a half years at The Birmingham TV LLP, learning from the station’s veterans and honing her journalism skills. In 2020, while also pursuing a short NCTJ Diploma course in Multimedia Journalism, she got a job working as a Multimedia Digital Journalist in London.
Mhari spent one year at Yahoo before quitting her job in February of that year to look for greener pastures. In April of that year, she got a job working as a Red Box reporter, a position she held until May 2022, when she joined Sky News.
