Rebecca Veeck, 27, was a very jovial woman who loved to put smiles on other people’s faces. She believed that a smile would make things better. She was famed for being the daughter of Mike Veeck, a renowned writer, entrepreneur, and philanthropist.
Rebecca used to enjoy working at her father’s organization, where she interacted with all sorts of visitors. She made the place very lively. She was ready to embarrass herself to make others laugh.
Rebecca was a very social woman who vibed with people so easily. Most of the people she interacted with ended up being her friends because she was a fun person to be around.

Rebecca also had a liking for horses and horse rides. She spent most of her time in the stables, taking care of the horses and taking them out for a ride. She was so enthusiastic about traveling.

At the age of 7, Rebecca was diagnosed with Retinitis Pigmentosa, a degenerative disease that would slowly make her eyesight disappear. It would take a lot to bring a smile off Rebecca’s face, but this did not bother her one bit; she was still the jovial girl who would do the most to make others feel relaxed and comfortable. The disorder left Rebecca blind.
At 22 years old, Rebecca had a seizure, and her parents took her to the University of Iowa Hospitals, where doctors diagnosed her with Batten disease, a fatal, inherited disorder of the nervous system with symptoms similar to dementia. This was very heartbreaking news for the family. They were going to lose their daughter.
Despite this fact, they were thankful for the misdiagnosis that they got when she was seven. This is because it would have hurt more to know that they would lose her when she was 7 years old. The family decided to keep the matter a secret so as to give Rebecca a normal last day. However much it was a difficult and heartbreaking task, they had to accept reality and enjoy the few days they had to be with Rebecca.
Rebecca battled, but it was time. She succumbed to the disease on September 30, 2019, in Charleston, South Carolina, aged 27. This was a very sad moment for the people she left behind, especially her father, Mike Veeck, with whom she has a special bond. However much he had been prepared for it, the pain wasn’t any different.
