Being a woman in STEM is not a walk in the park. Even with equal potential to their male counterparts, women are disturbingly few in these fields to the point that some people do not believe that women can build successful careers in this field.
However, Dr. Kimberly Moore Dalal is a good example that women thrive in these spaces and remain their authentic selves. This article outlines her journey to where she is today and how she overcame the doubt that came with being a woman in STEM.

Dr Kimberly Moore Dalal is a Surgical Oncologist at Palo Alto Medical Foundation and a voice featured on various platforms such as Tedx where she speaks on her journey as a woman in the field of surgery. She is also famously known for her casting in the reality TV show Take My Tumor where she attends to extremely challenging surgical cases.
Dr. Moore went to Havard for her undergraduate where she obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Biology. This was the foundation she laid on her journey to fulfill her childhood dream to become a surgeon which further manifested when she took a class on vertebrate surgery in her senior year.
Her first big doubt caster was when in her medical school interview, the interviewer told her she was not cut out to be a surgeon. It would be less shocking if it was due to her grades but that was not the case, it was due to her soft and feminine personality.
Clouded by her young love in college, she started doubting her suitability for the role taking into consideration her maternal duties despite neither being married nor having children at the time. Breaking up with her then-boyfriend snapped her back to reality and interning under a female chief resident who was as feminine as she, rekindled her desire to become a surgeon.
Seven years later, supported by her loved ones, she matched and moved to New York for her fellowship training program. She later moved back to California where she is part of a private practice with several other surgeons as talented as she is and gets to perform remarkable surgeries like one on a ten-month-old baby.
On Take My Tumor, Dr Kimberly stars alongside Dr Ryan Osborne and Dr. Jason Cohen.
